Handwoven Latvian linen

Studio Natural was founded in Riga in 1990 by textile artist Laima Kaugure, whose motto is “linen is a lifestyle”. The studio weaves European flax in small runs on traditional wooden looms, sometimes with wool or other fibres for depth and translucency, and softens the cloth by hand so it is ready for daily use.

The collection covers the whole table, from tablecloths and runners to napkins and placemats, plus scarves, towels and home textiles. Each piece lists its size, composition and care.

As a gift

Linen as a gift

Linen is a gift that is easy to get right: a set of napkins for a host, a scarf that works in every season, a tablecloth for a couple setting up a first home. It is practical, lasts for years and looks better the more it is used.

Questions and answers

Does linen get softer?
Yes. Linen fibres relax with every wash and use, so a linen tablecloth, napkin or towel feels softer after a few months than on the first day. Studio Natural also softens its cloth by hand before it leaves the studio.
How do I wash handwoven linen?
Follow the care note on each piece. Open, fine weaves such as the Tinita and Transparent lines are hand-washed at up to 30°C and not wrung or tumble-dried; linen is ironed hot, ideally while still slightly damp.
Where is the linen made?
In Riga, Latvia. Studio Natural weaves European flax in its own studio on traditional wooden looms, in limited quantities.
