Handwoven willow baskets

Every basket here is woven by the Tutāns family of Pinumu Pasaule, who have worked with willow since 1985 and as a workshop since 1999. They grow the willow themselves, then prepare, peel and weave it by hand. Master weaver Pēteris Tutāns learned the craft as a child and has shown his work from Latvia to Japan.

Mushroom and shopping baskets, firewood and laundry baskets, bicycle baskets, trays and wicker lamps: each listing gives the size.

Willow baskets as a gift

A handwoven basket is a gift that will outlast almost anything bought in a shop: a mushroom basket for a forager, a market basket for someone who shops on foot, a firewood basket for a new home with a stove.

Questions and answers

How do I look after a willow basket?
Keep it dry and out of strong, direct heat. Brush off dust, wipe it with a damp cloth when needed and let it dry in the air. Willow that dries out completely can become brittle, so an occasional light misting with water keeps it supple.
Can I order a basket in a custom size?
Often, yes. The Tutāns family weaves to measure. Write to hello@delmaraliving.com with the size and use you have in mind, and we will ask the workshop.
What is the difference between peeled and unpeeled willow?
Unpeeled willow keeps its bark, giving brown and green tones and a rustic, very durable basket. Peeled willow is stripped of bark for a lighter, smoother, buff-coloured finish.
